2. Creating a Leaflet

Suggested Leaflet Design Guidelines

Write 'LOST' rather than missing ("Lost" suggests the most likely probability - that your cat has lost its way & needs help)

You can get 4 leaflets from an A4 page, but 3 is recomended

Don't be afraid to post leaflets, act for your cat! Leaflets give households a picture of your cat to hand for identification. If a cat is spotted from their window, people may not bother to go out & find a poster if it is late or raining. Leaflets posted through letter boxes can be a lost cats best chance of rescue, people want to help lost animals.

• Divide an A4 page into three (roughly) 9 cm separations.

• Place a chosen picture on one side of each section to fill as much space as possible.

• write a polite appeal for help in your search - as a headline. Include the date that your cat went missing & note the area.

• Beneath this list identification details and anything that may quickly distinguish your cat from others.

Ask people to...

"Please check gardens & sheds in case he/she is trapped" (this really can happen)

"Please look out for *name* - is alone/shy/on a medical diet/desperately missed/lost and scared"

4, Include a phone number for people to call

(It is up to you wether you offer a reward, but do not state what you will offer)

5, Produce plenty of copies (100's), many more than you think you may need

(Good quality colour photocopies or prints are best)
Outline or mark areas which have been leafleted as you go on a map, this is important for your own memory. It is surprisingly easy to forget what has been done in stressful times. Your search may continue for an unknown period of time, updates may be necessary or a widening of the search area, so you would need to know what has already been covered.
Record the adresses of houses which did not answer, & try them again later.
